California wanted to be apart of the Union. This meant that there would be an uneven number of slave/free states. So, California entered as a slave state, Texas gave up land and paid $10 million, slavery was abolished in Washington, DC, and the Fugitive Slave Act was passed.
The Fugitive Slave Act required all citizens to return any fugitive slaves found. It also denied jury trials and caused more federal agents to enforce laws. The main thing it did was make the Abolitionists angry and boosted the movement.
The Georgia Platform accepted all the measures of the compromise, as long as the North obeyed the Fugitive Slave act and would not attempt to ban the expansion of slavery into new territories and states anymore. The Platform halted the movement for secession all over the south.
